Center for Research in Architecture, Urbanism and Design

The Centre for Research in Architecture, Urbanism and Design (CIAUD), based at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Lisbon (FA-ULisboa), was established in 2006. The Centre is composed of a cohesive and pluralistic team of collaborating and integrated Researchers, made up of teachers and students of the FA-ULisboa PhD courses and PhDs from other Schools. It is managed by an Executive Committee and supported by a set of Consultants of recognized international merit in the areas of focus of the CIAUD.

CIAUD's mission is to promote the production, development and innovation of scientific, technological and artistic knowledge in four nuclei - architecture, urbanism, design and ergonomics -, which interact with other disciplinary areas, with teaching and with society as a whole, enabling their intersection through more than 20 trans- and interdisciplinary Research Groups.

Linking research to local society and to the needs of decentralized regions and promoting dynamism in areas of the country where it is still difficult to develop research, CIAUD has extended its activity to four Poles that establish the beginning of a network at a national level, in order to contribute to the creation of future research centers. CIAUD is also supported by several technical structures, including a support team, a Library, Workshops and 3D Scanning, Rapid Prototyping, Color, Textile and Ergonomics and User Experience Laboratories.
