RESEARCH STRANDS

OPTIMIZATION OF HUMAN INTERACTION

Aimed at development and the application of the principles of ergonomics through the perspective of design focussed on the user, and on the optimization of consumption products and work environments. In this context, research has been conducted on the development and validation of physical systems interfaces or of information, through the definition of functional requirements for products or work systems.

SAFETY AND HEALTH IN THE WORKPLACE

Focussed on the analysis of interactions between human beings and the physical environment, an optimization of professional tools and working conditions with a double objective:

  1. reduce the probability of accidents in the workplace, occurrences and development of professional diseases;
  2. reduce the gravity of consequences as a result of accidents and of illnesses. There have also been studies on risk evaluation methods, to identify strengths and weaknesses, depending on the nature of the risk that is being evaluated.

ANALYSIS OF WORK CAPACITY AND ITS DETERMINANTS

The study of working capacity and of age in work, is an indicator of several problems related to work determinants and their impact on health and well-being. In this line of research, working capacity is viewed as a balance between work demands and the resources of the individual. The identification of the main factors that influence the changes in working capacity with seniors allows for a definition of the measures dedicated to promoting the capacity to work and to maintain workers in the organizations in a healthier way and for longer.
