The project "The Landscape Farm", led by CIAUD Researcher Jorge Cancela, wins the ARIA - Agricultural and Rural Inspiration Awards in the Environmental Protection category. For the first time, a national project has been selected.
"The Landscape Farm" seeks to implement measures aligned with environmental protection principles and adaptation to climate change in practice - soil preservation, utilization of natural resources, conservation of biodiversity and local traditions, water management, and rural ecosystem rehabilitation.
Project duration: 2020 to 2024
Total budget: 47,822.24 (EUR)
Results:
- Regeneration of 20 hectares of rural land
- Creation of job opportunities
- Dissemination of the concept of landscape agriculture to the general public
- Zero-waste and plastic-free project
- Utilization of best practices, such as soil carbon sequestration
- Organic certification Research with higher education students
- Creation of a Portuguese agro-ecological network
- Promotion of commercial networks and engagement with the local community
