Professor Terence Love, PhD is a design researcher and designer with a history of working at the cutting-edge of multiple design fields, typically around 30 years before ideas become mainstream.

In the early 1970s, Terence developed AI mathematics and software for identifying optimal design solutions, along with designing and creating one of the earliest wordprocessing software and developing early design theories and approaches to design research. In the mid-1970s, as an engineering designer, Terence worked on research prototyping the Torotrak gearbox that in a later form won the Formula one award in 2007. During that time he also created a prototype computer-based digital music recording system that could be accessed remotely along with diary and shopping software.

During the 1980s, Terence undertook research into AI forecasting, design and development of solar and wind power systems, created a computerized learning management system and developed one of the first robotics education programs.

Following a PhD in the 1990s, Terence has undertaken and published research and supervised research students across a wide variety of fields including Design, History, Art, Fashion, Manufacturing, Complex Systems, Management, Mathematics, Systems Science, Social Sciences, Indigenous Studies, Information Systems, Engineering, Urban Planning, and Criminology.

During the 2000s, Terence became one of the first Fellows of the Design Research Society and a member of its Fellowship Awarding Committee. Around 2001, Terence identified the ‘Two Feedback Loop Limitation Axiom, created the field of Variety Dynamics, and has had external research roles at multiple universities. Currently, Terence is an Adjunct Professor in Industrial Design, training and supervising PhD students; and is CEO of several small research-related organizations developing novel approaches to addressing complex systems problems in climate management, disaster control, crime prevention, sustainability, health systems, social support, international relations, and business development.
